First Tattoo?
A couple things to note, try not to have any alcohol the day before or day of your appointment. (it’s a blood thinner) If you’re currently on any Antibiotics or Accutane I can’t tattoo you. It’s a no go to tattoo sunburnt skin, so stay out of the sun or use SPF before your appointment! I also cannot tattoo someone who is pregnant, breastfeeding or concussed.
It’s super common to be nervous for a first tattoo! If you’re worried about the pain, some things that help, getting a good nights sleep before, make sure your hydrated & have eaten at least 4 hours before the appointment! A tylenol before the appointment can help too! just make sure it’s acetaminophen, since most other pain medications can thin your blood.
What the process will look like
I usually start working on the design a few days before the appointment, so we can have a little back & forth about how everything is looking. On the day of the appointment i’ll have a few sizes printed out for you that we can look through, it’s totally changeable & we can figure out placement! I’ll then be cleaning & shaving the area with dettol (an antiseptic) & we can place the stencil which is totally movable, & once we have it in the perfect place we can start the tattoo! I’ll be talking you through it the whole time & we can take as many breaks as you’d like. When we’re all done i’ll wrap it up with a wrap called saniderm, or second skin. If you’re allergic to adhesives, like bandaids for example I can use a different type of wrap! (Dri-loc pads and medical tape / grip tape) Please let me know of any allergies beforehand.
Once your tattoo starts to feel dry, itchy or tight start cleaning once a day, & afterwards using a small amount of fragrance free lotion. Make sure not to over moisturize! Avoid using things like Polysporin, Vaseline, and anything oil based, & don’t re-bandage it for any reason. Over the next couple of weeks, your tattoo will feel dry and itchy, and in most cases will have some scaling and peeling, make sure not to pick or scratch & let the skin peel naturally!
